You wouldn't want to go against that. Believe me.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian police has bought 25 high-powered Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution cars to catch criminals and speed hogs.
The cars, worth several millions of ringgit, would be fitted with safety gadgets and would sport the looks of police patrol cars.Sources said the police had already taken possession and were testing the cars before sending them to the Road Transport Department for registration and approval.
“The cars are to be used in high-speed car chase, especially in cases of carjacking, kidnapping and hijacking.
“The speed of the cars would enable the police to catch up with criminals who often used modified turbo charged cars to escape,” they said.
Several police personnel have been sent to undergo intensive driving classes to ensure they are able to handle the super charged cars, they added.
The cars, they said, would also be used by the highway patrol unit to monitor speed hogs or illegal racers.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan confirmed the purchase but declined to elaborate. – source thestar.com.my
Now, this is a very good thing. Despite spending millions to better arm our criminal-fighting-armada, Malaysian Police will at least have a fighting chance over highly funded criminals in Malaysia.
Buying a Mitsubishi Evolution X for this purpose will also send a message to local car manufacturers that their cars are no where good enough for this purpose. Car manufacturing industries are getting very competitive and if local manufacturers keep ignoring this threat, they are going to lose business soon.
From my opinion, they should have diversified the purchase slightly. Maybe they can throw in Nissan GTR into the mix.

Evo X for a police car…i dont think that is a good idea. In fact, it is a waste of money spending millions of ringgit on just a car. Crimes like carjacking, kidnapping and hijacking do not require high speed chasing, even if it really do, road blocks can be setup through simple radio communication.
And why Evo X, the police can get a sport police car with lower price, why not Evo 7!!! Or support Malaysia Proton brand, such as Perdana.
As a normal citizen, i do believe that it is a bad and irrational idea on purchasing this car, and i hope one day this car will appear on the newspaper showing how many crimes rate reduce than i am impress

Josh, you made some of very good points. Actually they dont just buy “a” car, they bought 25 of them, which is why they cost millions.
However, i still think it’s a good idea on getting a sport car in preparation to a high speed chase. Since criminals are getting faster day by day. Maybe 25 units are too much. Seven, or maybe ten would be more than adequate for now.
On a different note, they cant buy Malaysian made, namely Perdana; Perdana is no where good enough for high speed chase. The technology on current Perdana is very primitive, not to mention, heavily underpowered.
It’s like sending a fat cow to catch an Arabian horse

From my point of view, it think for Malaysia to upgrade to Evo cars its a good move, we been using satria GTI and Perdana. Now days people using much more faster cars then perdana such as turbo charges and etc. It’s a change to spend our tax money for our own safety , and I agree with yusuf buying too much also not good better around 10 to 15 would be significant.
Its would be a good image for RMP and Malaysian too..

I think is Evo is fine , not waste of money because these cars are used for hot pursuits, it is a cheaper alternative than subaru impreza.. but safety wise not very sure.. prefer old volvo… perdana and other japanese makes can’t accelerate too much and u can feel the vibration..usually evos help us to do box in manoevure but have not tried one..yet.. most thiefs here use high performance car such as BMWs , thus evo is the best cheaper alternative to chase these thiefs…

The Great, you are so narrow minded. You think Malaysia is consist of Kuala Lumpur only ah? Plus car-jackers will surely won’t drive around KL, too many CCTVs and traffic lights.
I think PDRM made a good move by starting with Mitsubishi Evo, maybe when the criminals in Malaysia move to Ferrari & Lambo then only PDRM need to improve. No point using a Ferrari to chase after a turbo-charged Proton. Do you guys know that the Customs already have BMWs as patrol cars? 5 series, I think should cost more than EVO-X. Normally govt won’t purchase any cars. They just rent them, this includes maintenance, repair & stand-by car if the normal car is being repaired. If you look at the package, few millions of Ringgit for 25 Evo-X is definitely worth it.
And I also think we should not condemn local car manufacturers if their car is not fit for use. If Proton produces high-end racing cars, will you buy? Or how many will buy? Please don’t give stupid excuse like Proton high-end sports cars should cost below 100k…you pay for what you get la. If the market is not there, no point investing. Do you know that 1 die (to stamp car body parts) could cost more than RM1 million? If only 500 units are sold, while the dies can punch out 10million cars…what would be the ROI (return of investment)?

Congratulations to PDRM,
Good-good-good, the right choices. Singapore police already used Subaru Turbo long time ago. Why not PDRM? Don’t think that this is waste of money brothers. You see, how many imported half-cut cars per month to Malaysia? Who’s buy them? What’s the purposed of that? Now the prices increased every month not included mounting proses and bla-bla. This is not included others high performance car like Subaru, Nissan, BMW, Minis and etc…You see sudah berapa banyak polis mati kejar penjenayah. Aku agreeeeeed with that. The most and better decision by PDRM. U should be proud of that.
Go go go go go go go, GOOD LUCK MR POLICE.

Evo X? Better spend the money on managing the road blocking. I agree with Josh, why don’t use Perdana? V6 is not enough for high speed chasing? I thought government encourage citizen to buy local car? It seems that government prefer foreign car than the local one.

Those who said it’s a stupid thing can just drop dead and die. Didn’t you know Perdana V6s are heavy on the fuel consumption while not really providing the needed horsepower in high speed car chases. Do your research first before saying it’s a bad thing lah. European countries cops have been using M5s since I don’t know, before you were born. say. And 25 is too much? Are you guys kidding me? Let’s say if you deploy 3 of the evos is KL, 3 in the north, 3 in the south, 3 in sabah and 3 in sarawak and the rest split amongst the other states, you think enough ah? Think first la!

For sure Evo X was a right choice for the purpose compare to Perdana V6.
But More importantly it has to be driven by a properly trainned officer equipped with right skills set (both driving and their professionalism).

My opinion is ntg goes wrong if gov buys any super car as patrol car.I just remember that they say before “we should support Buatan Malaysia, Buy Local Car “? But why the f**k now all buy foreign car? And i dunno why they need a super car for chasing criminal. Only kl already got few thousand police. Wat they all do ? They cant even catch one car of criminal with a turbo charged car? just my opinion and questioning. Peace

sebab keta buatan malaysia yang ada dlm pasukan PDRM dah lapuk.. keta yang dah berumur 10 tahun ke atas. mana la dapat kejar keta baru sekarang ni bro.. fikir la. polis lain pun ada tugas dia juga. bukan setakat nak settle 1 kes jenayah saja. dalam 1 hari boleh sampai beribu kes jenayah. jangan asyik nak kritik orang saja bro.. ko pun x perfect jugak. memang elok PDRM beli keta EVO X.. kementerian dah rancang perbelanjaan negara. dorang lagi bijak dari korang. kalau tak, dah lama dah kita kena serang lanun.. pengajaran nya, enjin keta buatan malaysia perlu ditukar. baru la power. semua orang di malaysia ni pun tahu tang keta malaysia x setanding dengan keta skyline, BMW, subaru impreza, bla bla.. beli keta EVO X pun korang kutuk. buka minda tu sikit. patut la tak maju. ‘katak di bawah tempurung’…. MALAYSIA BOLEH, PDRM BOLEH….

1st thing is, it’s a good move that PDRM bought a new hot looking car for hot pursuit, but for my opinion, why dont they upgrade our super car like LOTUS(even though it’s not a local made, but still owned by proton right?), rather than buying EVOX and upgrading it. Maybe it’s expensive, but they dont have to buy it over 20 cars.
2nd It’s better if we use cars that can cut throuh edges, as we all know, that all our traffic is always jamed all the time, not to mention if there’s an highway upgrade or an accidents, roadblock, and even if SOMEONE STOPING BY THE HIGHWAY WILL CAUSE A JAM!!!
Malaysia have some factors that have to be corrected, in terms of highway(traffic roads vehicle Et cetera) people and other things.
Like our friend ZAM says, Japan had Nissan Skyline R34, and US is using a Chevy Corvette Z6 or maybe even BETTER! Because they’re using their local cars. Then why cant we?
Another thing is, in malaysia we dont have thousands and thousands of miles/KMs like Australia and US and other countries had, the longest biggest straightest highway i’ve ever use in malaysia is the Putra Jaya – Kampung Pandan highway.
And they dont have many curve cuting edges roads that we are using RIGHT NOW, and its worth what they bought for.
But what I concern is our local car dosen’t make any reaction upon this case, on what their comment or complain to it.
CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG

whoever super-nintendo that says the above statement must got his brain stuck in the the toilet hole.
It does not has to be modified turbo to be fast…original turbocharge can be faster than anything the police force previously has….for instants ‘Kapchai’..
