Faced with slumping global sales, Honda Motor Co. has officially pulled out of this fall’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Instead of showing off its latest and greatest in Germany, Honda pledged again to focus its efforts on the research and development of advanced technologies like fuel cells and hybrid vehicles, as well as revamp its European Honda Academy where customer service is instructed.

Honda will cut an extra 62,000 vehicles from its production cycle, in North America this year by shutting down factories for 13 days. The off days will be sporadically placed between May 1 and July 31.  Salaried and factory workers will get pay cuts too and bonuses likely will be reduced or eliminated altogether.

Previously, when Honda was forced to shut its factories it still paid hourly workers. But with a 33% sales decline through February under its belt, the automaker only will compensate workers for six of the 13-day period.
