Ariel, makers of the Ariel Atom, is considering alternate powertrain technology for its next model. Ariel will keep its signature naked frame of the current Atom, though Ariel boss Simon Saunders assures the company is not planning a conventional sports car.
Saunders said “We don’t want to take on the established manufacturers, We will use our knowledge from building the Atom to produce a car for a totally new segment.”
Saunders is looking past the internal combustion engine to fuel cell and other electric powertrains. The company has cancelled plans for an 800-hp 12.0L hyper-car of sorts, and will focus on performance through light materials and new technology.
