Porsche may share its Panamera and 911 platforms with other VW Group brands in the near future, newly appointed Porsche CEO Michael Macht said.
Macht said Porsche will need to fill a support role for VW. “Porsche needs to become a strong pillar of VW, as well as having its own production and research and development capabilities. It is important to use synergies as well as having independence,” the CEO said.
Two models included in future synergies will likely be the Panamera and 911.
“The Panamera platform could be used by other brands for models that are in development and at the concept stage,” he mentioned.
Porsche, on the other hand, won’t necessarily borrow much from VW. Currently the only significant VW Group-derived component that Porsche has is the V-6 motor for the Cayenne. New models are on the way for the sports car brand.
“Any new model would have to be exclusive, sporting and make a good business case,” Macht said. “In any segment Porsche has to be the most exclusive, as well as being the best quality and capable of delivering the best driving experience.”
