The 2011 BMW 5 Series has taken a lot of design cues from its track eating granddaddy, the BMW F1 machine. The 5 series as a whole has got a whole load intresting than that of the outgoing version it replaces. Early reports unveil the option of active rear steering which dynamicly means tighter turning circles at slow speeds while giving it increased stability during high speed action.

This all new BMW 5 Series model will also feature an 8-speed automatic transmission, which will bring the UDM driver to a new level of perfection. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available with one V-8 and one inline-6 gasoline engine. The top of the range BMW 550i will feature BMW’s “reverse-flow” V-8 engine featuring twin turbochargers and High Precision direct injection for a maximum output of 400 hp.
The new inline-6 of the BMW 535i features a single twin-scroll turbocharger, High Precision direct injection, and, for the first time, VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology. It delivers a maximum output of 300 hp and 300 lb-ft.
BMW will continue their tradition as the only manufacturer to offer manual transmissions in the 5 Series’ competitive set, underlining the sporty nature of the car, as well as BMW’s commitment to driving enthusiasts.

The 535i and 550i Sedans will be offered with 6-speed manual transmission in the United States, providing a level of driver involvement unique in the segment.
Appropriate choice of the right materials helps to balance weight on the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, enhancing both the agility of the car as well as its fuel economy and emission rating.
