Kia Considering A Turbo Engine For Forte Koup

2010-kia-forte-koup-sideIt may be young to the world market, but Kia already has big plans for its new coupe, or Koup. Tom Loveless, Kia’s sales vice president, mentioned that the compact two-door may be powered by a turbocharged powerplant in the near future.

A turbo engine would be the first ever for the brand. Turbocharging, according to Loveless, “is a natural extension if it makes financial sense,” meaning the engine would most likely have to be utilized by a few more of the Korean automaker’s other models. We’re pretty sure many buyers would happily welcome a turbo unit in the Soul or Forte sedan.

Currently the Forte Koup can be has with two engines — a 2.0L or 2.4L inline-four making 156 hp or 173 hp, respectively.

Is a turbocharged engine what Kia needs? Would a turbo engine convince you to buy a Koup?
