Suzuki Breaks Off Alt-Power Partnership With GM

The japanese carmaker, Suzuki reported that they will ending joint development programs with General Motors in February. GM used to be its top shareholder for its aid in developing hybrid and fuel-cell technologies. According to the report:

“Suzuki is in a comprehensive alliance with Volkswagen. In every field including hybrid, diesel and electric cars, we will carry out joint development with them, or we will learn from them,” Osamu Suzuki, chairman and chief executive, said at the briefing in Hamamatsu, central Japan.

Volkswagen has became Suzuki biggest shareholder with 19.9 percent stake. So obviously that working with GM was no longer necessary. He also said Suzuki plans to procure diesel engines from Volkswagen and would review its ties with PSA Peugeot Citroen and Renault SA , which currently supply diesel engines to Suzuki.
