General Motors has announced that it will team up with NASA to build a new robot capable of performing in a human-like manner. The effort follows such automaker-robot tie-ups as Honda’s ASIMO.
Working together through a Space Act agreement, the pair, built “Robonaut 2.” An improvement over the original Robonaut, built in-house at NASA, the robot is said to be quicker and more dexterous than other humanoid ‘bots.
GM’s vice president for global research and development, Alan Taub, stated that the automaker hopes to gather as much experience with advanced control systems, sensors, and vision technologies that many of which could eventually be applied to it’s vehicle safety systems.
