Peugeot Introduces The New Hors-Série

PSA Peugeot Citroen plans to expand its business on the premium vehicle market. Soon after Citroen presented their DS3 from their DS luxury range, Peugeot followed suit with their hors-série (meaning out “hors” of mass production “série”) range.

Peugeot’s hors-série range will debut in June 2010, with the introduction of the RCZ coupe, which was first seen at the Geneva Auto Show. Another model will be unveiled in the following year, which will be the 508 station wagon, replacing the 407 and the 607, followed by another undisclosed model in 2012. All of these strategies are designed to create a strong image for its new high-end products.

The new Peugeot RCZ is a 2+2 coupe, a definate rival for the Audi TT, and will have 3 engine variants:
1) 1.6L Turbo engine with 156 bhp and 240Nm of torque
2) 1.6L Turbo engine with 200bhp and 255Nm of torque
3) 2.0L DIESEL with 163bhp and 340Nm of torque.

For luxury brands to move down-market would mean larger volumes, whereas for mainstream brands such as Peugeot, looking to the up-market segment has the lure of better profit margins per car.
