Porsche Panamera Recall! – Potential Seatbelt Failure

Porsche and America’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall for the 2010 Panamera for a potential seat belt defect that could leave the driver unprotected in the event of an accident. NHTSA has indicated that the defect could occur when either front seats are placed in an “extreme position,” which could cause the seat belt mount to become detached from the anchoring mechanism, whilst the belt is fastened or opened.

Though it is unclear what is the real definition of an “extreme position,” it is highly possible that the statement is made with reference to the seat being either too close to the dash or the too far from it. However, Panamera owners are able to visit their nearest dealer to have an additional locking mechanism installed into the belt anchoring system to correct the issue.

The NHTSA has released figures of up to 3,176 units could be affected and spokesman Gary Fong of Porsche North America has stated that Porsche has discovered that in an extreme forward front seat position, the front safety belts do not meet their strict safety standards and in order to ensure that the front belts do work properly in all possible positions, Porsche has added an additional element to the anchoring system. Fong further comments that the repair will only require 15 minutes and at no additional costs being incurred.

Thankfully, no injuries nor fatalities have been associated with this recall….yet?
