Three marques sit at the very top of the luxury segment: Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maybach. Each is owned by one of Germany’s carmaking powerhouses: Volkswagen, BMW and Daimler, respectively. Each makes limousines of obscene luxury and status, with price tags to match. But only the first two make two-door coupe versions as well, leaving unfortunate Maybach with nothing to compete with the Brooklands and Phantom Coupe. The wait is over for Maybach fans because German firm Xenatec has taken the reins to a coupe project and will build 100 copies based off the 57 S sedan.
After gaining Daimler’s approval, Xenatec is poised to give the 57 S a special body that retains the sedan’s length at 225.5 inches but is widened to 86 inches and dropped to stand just 58 inches tall.
To assist the car with its wider body, the air suspension has been retuned. Xenatec has also selected new 20-inch wheels to further enhance the coupe’s exterior.
Although the body and appearance look new, the powerplant beneath the hood remains the same with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 putting out 603 bhp and 738 lbft of
torque. Xenatec hasn’t revealed any performance figures but the coupe will most likely perform in line with the standard 57 S, which is capable of hitting 100 kmh in five seconds with a top speed of 277 kmh.
This rare coupe will burn a hole in your pocket worth USD $827,000. A standard 57 S sedan starts around USD $400,000.
