Shorter Alza Waiting Period

Good news from Perodua customers who booked the Alza and have yet to receive their cars. They will soon be able to receive their vehicle earlier than planned, thanks to the increase in production of the model in recent weeks.

“We managed to reduce the waiting period to 3 weeks currently from 2 months in February by ramping up production recently,” Perodua managing director En Aminar Rashid Salleh said in a statement today.

Perodua has received more than 30,500 bookings for the Alza since the model was launched last November and delivered some 20,000 units to date.

The company also targets to sell 4,000 units of the compact multipurpose Alza monthly.

Meanwhile, Perodua expanded its market share in the domestic car market to 33.9% in April 2010 from the 32.9% recorded in March on the back of a continued strong demand.

“Our car sales in April totalled some 15,900 units or 33.9% market share (based on Perodua’s Total Industry Volume estimate of 47,000 units) beating our target of 15,500 units,” En Aminar said.

“April achievement was also 29.4% higher than the 12,300 units sold in the same month last year. However, the 15,900 units sold was 14.1% lower compared with the 18,500 units (Perodua’s record) achieved in March 2010, he added.

The Myvi, with over 6,300 units sold last month, regained the number 1 best selling model in Malaysia. Perodua also sold a total of 5,800 units of ViVa and 3,800 units of Alza.

“We are also on course to achieve our 176,000 units sales by registration target this year. For the first 4 months 2010, we have sold 63,700 units, ahead of the 59,900 units planned,” En Aminar said.

He said booking for Perodua cars remained healthy with 18,000 units in April and production will also be bumped up in the coming months to cater for the anticipated higher demand in the second quarter, in time for the festive season.

“Economists and analysts have forecasted between 8% to 11% economic growth for Malaysia this year and we can expect a hike in demand for cars,” En Aminar said.

As for service, total intake was 143,000 or 7.52% higher than the 133,000 intake achieved during the same month last year. It markets share for service was at 44%.

Meanwhile, Perodua received the 2010 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards: Best Passenger Car Value for Money Model of the Year” for the third consecutive year. En Aminar received the award on behalf of the company at a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur on 12 May.
