While we were busy focusing a lot on other manufacturing cars lately, this rumour really does seem to be too intriguing to be ignored. It seems that the next-generation Mazda MX-5 could tip the scales at about one tonne and boast and impressive 4.7L per 100km without losing any of its horsepower in the process.
This may happen with the help of Mazda’s upcoming SKY-G engines but wait up, that’s what the rumour is all about.
The rumour on the other hand, actually says that 2012 Miata will receive the rotary mill displacement of 1.2 /1.3L, helping the MX-5 to cut some weight from it.
The rotary engine has been proven to be fuel-efficient and to get more efficiency out of it, we believe that this new MX-5 could go hybrid. It might sound a little too ambitious from the surface, but FIAT has proven that it can act as a generator for a Lithium-Ion battery pack.
As intriguing as it might be, we still love the Miata for its zippy nature, but the hybrid might have just turn the tables upside down; more cost… more weight *sigh.
