Audi R8 Spyder vs. Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

Though math is the language of the universe, physics is the language of cars. Reduce mass, input more low-end torque and power and voila, better performance.

Compare a Porsche 911 Turbo convertible (1,645kg) with the Audi R8 V10 Spyder’z (1,720kg) weight. Though this particular Porsche is the heaviest amongst the other within it’s marque, it still has a 75kg weight advantage over the R8.

Although the R8′s V10 produces 525bhp, which is 25bhp above the Porsche’s 500bhp, the V10 engine only has 530Nm of torque that peaks at 6,500 rpm. However, the turbocharged and direct injected flat-six of the 911 cranks out 650Nm at just 1,950 rpm.

The Porsche’s engine characteristics provides for better acceleration and braking figures which translates to better track times for a rear-engined rear-wheel-drive car.
