With BMW’s hype on the M-badged X5 and X6, add a little renewal from Porsche’s Cayenne and you wouldn’t have given any thought about Mercedes’ ML range. But, you should, because Mercedes has a fast out-of-the-box SUV, the ML63 AMG.
This particular ML has the same 6.2L V8 that’s really potent on the AMG farm, with 503bhp and 630Nm of torque. For the moment, AMG has only updated the ML63 with slight exterior changes which includes darkened head-lamps and tail-lamps, a refreshed hood and tweaked front and rear underguards in chrome. Other than these, there still remains the seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission thats routes the power to all four 20″ rims.
It’s now expected that the next generation AMG MLs will see it use a twin-turbo 5.5L V8, pumping out 544bhp and 900Nm of torque that should lay down a considerable amount of rubber onto the asphalt. Held that high-powered SUVs and crossovers aren’t considered the most practical of vehicles, but if time is of the essence, it’ll allow you to drop off the kids at tuition, pick up the dry cleaning, do some grocery shopping, relax at a cafe, read a magazine and then head home after picking up the kids from class.
