David Coulthard Tries Out The Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell

Retired F1 driver; David Coulthard had one lucky day as he took the Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell prototype for a test drive on a runway before hitting the public roads of Norway.

Coulthard was pretty surprised with the electric car, stating that the acceleration was “instant but smooth”. The advantage that the E-Cell holds is that the four motors powering each wheel allows for better efficiency, torque distribution, traction and handling.

But, according to Couthard, the achievable top speed with the E-Cell’s single-speed transmission wasn’t very impressive when compared to the standard SLS. Not to mention, the acceleration from 161Kmh was also slower than the standard model.

However, we feel that cornering abilities leaves a bigger smile than straight-line speed. Enjoy the clip.
