Rumours are surrounding the F1 paddock about the future of Robert Kubica as his contract is up for renewal by the end of this season.
Robert Kubica successfully made his first appearance with BMW-Sauber in 2006 after winning the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2005. He also managed to land a fourth placing in the drivers’ standings in 2007.
Kubica has recently switched to Renault for the 2010 season and currently is in sixth position so far after a couple of notable podium finishes. It was also reported that Kubica is happy with the French team and is looking forward to continue his contract for another few years; as long as Renault has sufficient funding to compete with the rest.
At present, news has it that Renault is now in discussions with MasterCard as their future title sponsor. Though the Lola team (sponsored by MasterCard in 1997) failed to make it to the grid, MasterCard’s sponsorship might just be Kubica’s and Renault’s long-awaited solution, since the Crashgate scandal and subsequent dismissal of its top personnel.
Renault has also filled in its second seat with the Russian gentlemen, Vitaly Petrov. The young rookie was hired due to Renault’s financial concerns.
However, Renault might bring Kimi Raikonen back into the F1 mix once they’ve finalized their deal with MasterCard. Renault is now looking to become a stronger contention within F1. We say, the sooner the better.
