BMW Group Malaysia Celebrates 30 Years of the BMW Motorrad GS Models.

Four special edition “30 Years GS” motorcycles introduced.

In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of BMW Motorrad’s GS models, BMW Group Malaysia today introduced four new, special edition motorcycles. The new motorcycles, bearing the special anniversary name “30 Years GS”, arrive in the form of the BMW R1200 GS “30 Years GS”; R1200GS Adventure “30 Years GS”; F800GS “30 Years GS” and F650GS “30 Years GS”.

Unveiling the new motorcycles, Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director BMW Group Malaysia said, “Throughout the last thirty years, BMW Motorrad has consistently nurtured the outstanding talents of the GS boxer models, focusing on riding dynamics, off road qualities, superior comfort and endurance, whilst at the same time consistently enhancing the overall appeal of the motorcycle to an even higher level. Thirty years on, we mark our adventures with the GS with four new special edition motorcycles!”

He also added that the eventual technologies and developments that were created for the GS models were also the platforms BMW Motorrad successfuly employed for the other series of BMW motorcycles, making the GS the BMW Group’s pioneer offering in motorcycle technology.

Sharing Briscoe’s sentiments on the BMW Motorrad GS models, Fazli Shukor, BMW Motorrad Manager, BMW Group Malaysia said, “The GS created many firsts not only for BMW Motorrad but for motorcycles of the world. The GS was the first BMW enduro with a single cylinder engine, the first grand touring enduro with suspension and running gears and the first enduro to use engine and transmission as load-bearing elements on the chasis, taking away the burden from the conventional main frame. The GS was also the first motorcycle from BMW to utilise both BMW Paralever rear wheel suspension and BMW Telelever front wheel suspension, and it was the  world’s first enduro to feature ABS!”

He added that with the introduction of the “30 Years of GS” special versions of the BMW R1200GS, the R1200GS Adventure, the F800GS and the F650GS, BMW Motorrad is paying its tribute to the outstanding success of the GS models both in the production of series machines and in motorsport.

“Looking back in time in 1980, BMW Motorrad decided to embark on an entirely new territory with the introduction of the R 80 G/S. The motorcycle  was created to offer a combination of onroad touring and offroad qualities without compromise in everyday use. The motorcycle won its very first race in 1981 and even shined its way to victory at the prestigious Paris – Dakar Rally. This was soon to be the first in a line of many great successes in motorsport celebrated by BMW Motorrad and the GS” said Fazli Shukor.

BMW R1200 GS “30 Years GS” - RM 119, 000

The R 1200 GS “30 Years GS” special model now highlights an exclusive paintwork in Alpine White non-metallic with three-coloured decals in the former colours of BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the “30 Years GS” model designation on the fuel tank. The motorcycle also features cross- spoke wheels with a spoke ring in black epoxy finish as well as hand protectors.

The R 1200 GS exudes a masculine and sporting look with its red seats finished with three-dimensional GS stamp in the side flanks. Further upgrades in accordance to a customer’s personal preference can be done by adding special equipment and extras from the wide range of choice offered by BMW Motorrad. Available both as special equipment and as an options straight from the factory, the special low-height seat (which is also part of the lowered suspension package) comes exclusively in black.

BMW R1200 GS Adventure “30 Years GS” – RM 125, 500

For the more adventurous souls, the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure highlights the rugged and masculine character as well as the offroad qualities of the GS. The motorcycle represents genuine adventure, optimising the qualities of the R 1200 GS for the most demanding long distance tours.

The special version of the BMW R 1200 GS also comes with the exclusive paintwork in Alpine White non-metallic and three-coloured decals in the historical livery of BMW Motorrad Motorsport along with the “30 Years GS” model designation on the tank. The motorcycle also highlights extra-large hand protectors in black together with a robust engine protection hoop made of aluminium. Emphasising its sporty look and character, the seat is finished in red/black with its three-dimensional “GS” stamp on the side. Again, further upgrades are available according to the customer’s individual request by special equipment and extras from the range made available from BMW Motorrad.

BMW F800 GS “30 Years of GS” – RM 88, 000

Weighing in at just 207 kg or 456 lb with a full tank, the F 800 GS “30 Year GS” special version promises maximum riding pleasure both onroad and offroad, combined with fatigue-free riding qualities for long tours. Underlining its dynamic riding qualities, the motorcycle also comes with the exclusive Alpine White non-metallic paintwork with three-coloured decals in the traditional livery of BMW Motorrad Motorsport as well as the “30 Year GS” model designation on the airbox cover. Robust hand protectors with a stainless- steel hoop, plastic protectors, and a large spoiler element is also featured together with an engine protection hoop made of aluminium to take heavy loads.

The special red seat finished with a three-dimensional “GS” stamp at the front of the seat bottom as well as the white direction indicators also further marks the sporty highlight of the motorcycle. Further upgrades are made available upon special requests and preference. The special low-height seat (which is also part of the lowered suspension package) comes exclusively in black and is available both as a special equipment and as an option straight from the factory.

BMW F650 GS “30 Years of GS” – RM 75,500

BMW Motorrad also provides an option of a smaller model of the same kind of the BMW F 800 GS – the F 650 GS. This model is aimed at riders who are not only out for adventure and offroad riding as the fortes of the F 650 GS is its lower seat height, easy riding characteristics and its excellent suitability for everyday use.

The special “30 Years GS” model of the F 650 GS also features the exclusive Alpine White non-metallic paintwork with three-coloured decals in the historical livery of BMW Motorrad Motorsport and its special model designation on the rear section, together with stainless-steel hand protectors and a black plastic protector as well as a colour-matched engine protection cover again in black.

Additionally, the special version of the F 650 GS also sports magnesium-coloured cast wheels, red seats with the three-dimensional “GS” stamp at the front of the seat as well as white direction indicators giving it its exclusive note.

As per all models, the F 650 GS “30 Years GS” is also available for upgrade through the addition of special equipment and optional extras from the wide range of features offered by BMW Motorrad. This includes the lower seat that comes exclusively in black which is available as both special equipment and as an optional extra.

BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport – RM 163,888

BMW Group Malaysia also introduced the limited ‘HP2 Sport Motosport’ Special edition motorrad. With only five units available for the Malaysian market, the new HP2 Sport Motorsport distinguishes itself from its predecessor the HP2 Sport in that the motorcycle has its fairing, fuel tank, seat bench, front mudguard and engine spoiler painted in the BMW Motorsport colours of Alpine White, Lupine Blue metallic and Magma Red.

Further to this, forged aluminium wheels in Lupine Blue metallic at the front and Alpine White at the rear, exclusive special edition green and black start number areas on the seat body, as well as the presence of the special factory sticker provides further indication to the successful BMW Motorrad Motorsport works motorcycle.

In its engine specifications, the BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport features a flat twin engine equipped with double overhead camshafts and high-engine-speed capable cam followers for valve operation. The engine delivers 98 kW (133 hp) at 8750 rpm with a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 6000 rpm. Further insinuating its exclusive racing feature is the shift assistant in conjunction with the closely synchronised gearbox which permits fast upshifting without having to operate the clutch or stop acceleration.

The equipment and suspension on the BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport also features motor racing technology. The spring elements of the Öhlins sports suspension are fully adjustable and the Brembo braking system with radially bolted monoblock four-piston fixed callipers ensures optimum deceleration even in tough motorracing conditions.

Optimum ergonomics are ensured by the adjustable foot rest system, the cast aluminium adjustable handlebar ends as well as the radial-hand Magura instruments. The standard 2D dashboard, which stems directly from MotoGP racing, provides the rider with conventional information as well as with lap times and further motorsports relevant data.
