Next-Gen Boxer Engine From Subaru Arriving This Year!

There’s news running around about boxers!

So Subaru’s set on releasing a new more fuel-efficient version of its boxer four-cylinder engine, which should be available in both 2.0L and 2.5L variants, boasting a 10% gain in fuel economy over its current boxer engines.

Details have yet to be released about how its about to obtain the gains, but Subaru was quick to point out that the changes are the first significant revision of the company’s boxer architecture in two decades.

A Fuji Heavy Industries spokesperson confirmed that the new powerplant is coming, but didn’t let the cat out of the bag as to which models will be receiving the newly revised engines.

However, there’s more information floating about that the light-drinking boxer will find its way first into the Forester and paired with a CVT gearbox. After which, it will proceed to take up residence in both the Legacy and Impreza models.
