BMW Group Malaysia recently hosted Wheel2Wheel, an independent non-profit entity comprising of two philanthropists Morgan Parker and Alan Ng who have been traversing the greater part of Asia Pacific on BMW F800GS motorcycles in their bid to raise funds and awareness for grassroot level charitable organisations throughout the region.

Both Wheel2Wheel representatives had just completed the Malaysian-leg of their Wheel2wheel motorcycle enduro-adventure in aid of the Women’s Aid Organization Organization (WAO), a non-government body set up to prevent violence and discrimination against women.

A fervent biker, Morgan Parker is very passionate about the charitable causes that Wheel2wheel has selected to support, including the Women’s Aid Organization (WAO) in Malaysia.

The adventurous duo arrived at the Auto Bavaria BMW Motorrad dealership in Glenmarie, Shah Alam on their custom-fitted BMW Motorrad F800 GS motorcycles from Thailand after a four day riding tour of Malaysia, traversing over 1200 KM of highways and local trunk roads. The duo were greeted by an entourage from the Malaysian BMW Motorrad Owners Club, before embarking on a short ride to Genting Highlands with stopovers at Batu Caves and the Ulu Yam Lake.

Sharing his experience throughout his journey, Morgan Parker said, “The journey so far has been quite an interesting challenge with much of the terrain posing difficulties as well as spectacular beauty at the same time. However, the cause has made it all worth it as we have managed to see first hand, the work of the organisations such as the Women’s Aid Organisation in making a difference in the countries they operate in.”

Parker also added that the duo have made many friends along their noble journey, highlighting the rugged presence and spirit of the BMW Motorcycles and their owners who share a common camaderie of the open road and adventure.

“There’s just something about BMW Motorrad owners, their motorcycles and the spirit of adventure. Throughout my journey, I had the privilege of riding along side a few BMW Motorrad owners as they too journeyed across the terrain. These are the best bikes in the world to endure challenging terrain, crossing mountains and rivers as well as conquering muddy trails and dirt roads” said Parker.

Mr. Fazli Shukor, Motorrad Manager, BMW Group Malaysia, meanwhile, said, “We at BMW Group Malaysia are proud to be associated with the altruistic efforts of these philanthropic champions who are real bikers at heart. We are also especially pleased to see that the local BMW Motorrad community is also taking up this opportunity to raise awareness on Wheel2Wheel’s efforts throughout the journey.”

Shukor added that the fact that BMW Motorrad F800GS was picked by these endurance bikers as their vehicle of choice for their charitable journey is a great representation of the BMW Motorrad’s brand heritage, innovative design and industry leading technology which have made BMW motorcycles some of the best enduro bikes in the world.

Kick started on March 1st, 2011, the Wheel2Wheel project aims to raise funds and awareness of grassroots-level charitable organisations by visiting them as part of a 20,000 km motorcycle journey involving 10 charities in 10 countries over 100 days. The project has so far raised USD 180,000 through campaigns over Facebook and Twitter.

The duo have been been entirely self-sufficient on their journey, with everything carried on their trusty BMW Motorrad F800GS motorcycles from Hong Kong on to China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and now Malaysia, en route to Indonesia, Timor Leste and finally, Morgan’s hometown of Brisbane, Australia.

All the footage of this Asia Pacific voyage will be compiled into a special Wheel2wheel 10-part television series and broadcast throughout the Asia Pacific region on the National Geographic Channel in the second half of 2011.
