The recent collobaration of Toyota and Subaru in building a sports coupe saw Toyota unveiling its FT-86 Concept car at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, but Subaru’s interpretation is still under wraps.
The engine which was previously speculated to be a 160 horsepower 2 litre turbo boxer series engine is rumoured to be now replaced with a 2 litre turbo from either the Impreza 2.0 GT or the WRX STI. Power output hence has improved with around 250hp for the standard edition with a possible STI version churning out about 308hp
Subaru will further distance the 216A as it is now called from the FT-86 through signature styling elements, longer and wider dimensions and an extra 100kg in weight. However, the closeness in actual wheelbase and overall length with the current hatch mean the two could share even more parts.
Pricing has been speculated at around ¥3 million(RM 112,380) when launched in Japan in 2011.
