Perodua is giving away 13 industry-grade robots to Universiti Malaysia Pahang as practical training tools for its engineering students.
Students will be able to learn – first hand – the operations of these robots and they can take this knowledge and apply it in any automotive company or any other relevant industry as they see fit,” Perodua managing director Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar said in his speech at the hand over ceremony here today.
The robots were previously used on the welding lines as automated welders for various models since 1997, most notably the Kancil, until there were decommissioned recently. However, the robots are still in good condition.
Some 590,000 Kancil units were manufactured using the robots over a 12-year period (a total of 720,000 Kancil units were produced from 1994 to 2009). In addition to the robots, Perodua is also training UMP technicians on how to operate and maintain the robots. UMP will utilise the robots in its Manufacturing Engineering Faculty and it is estimated that an average of 200 students per academic year will benefit from the utilisation of the robots.
Our hope is that they take this opportunity to learn as much as they can to prepare themselves in the ever demanding job environment,” Hafiz said.
Meanwhile, Perodua is also sponsoring back-to-school items to a total 60 less fortunate school children in the surrounding Kuantan and Gambang areas.A ceremony was held at Perodua Sales Kuantan branch, where Perodua donated stationeries, school bags and pocket money for the upcoming school term.
