Mercedes-Benz has rolled out the latest addition to the SLK Roadster line-up with the 2012 SLK55 AMG. This diminutive hardtop roadster comes with fresh new styling and a brand new 5.5L V8.
And while this is the first time we get to see the new SLK 55 AMG in the flesh, Mercedes-Benz has just shared the full details on the roadster model ahead of its Frankfurt official debut.
The 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 engine with a peak output of 415bhp and 540Nm of torque, which can then accelerate from 0-100kmh in 4.6 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250kmh.
And to keep things somewhat greener, the new V8 engine employs cylinder deactivation technology, direct fuel injection, and an engine stop-start system for greater fuel efficiency.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a 7-speed AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic with three transmission modes; sport, manual and efficiency.
Besides the V8 powertrain, the SLK55 AMG gets distinctive light-alloy wheels, exclusive AMG body styling with an AMG spoiler lip, two chrome-plated twin tailpipes at the rear and custom badging. The SLK55 also features a standard hardtop retractable roof with a full glass pane that can be electronically switched to become transparent or opaque.
Inside, you’ll find the AMG-specific analogue clock, aluminium trims and pedals, the AMG Performance steering wheel, the AMG Instrument cluster and a pair of sport seats and plenty of surfaces covered in stitched leather.
The 2012 SLK55 AMG will receive its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September with sales of the car scheduled to start in early 2012.
