Ferrari has created a special one-off car, the SP12 EC, as an homage to the famed guitarist Eric Clapton’s career and his long-lasting passion for Ferrari having owned three 512 BB models over the years.

Designed by the Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with Pininfarina and the engineers from Maranello, the breakdown of the 458 Italia-based model’s name is: ‘SP’ for Special Project, ’12’ for the Ferrari 512BB that inspired its design and of course, ‘EC’ for Eric Clapton.

Specifications haven’t been announced, but the model reportedly features a 4.5L V8 engine with 562 hp and 540 Nm of torque. It should enable the supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 325 km/h.

According to Clapton, creating the car was like “being in front of a gigantic blank canvas that had to be painted on.” He added, “it is an incredible experience, one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done.”
