The Super GT fever can already be felt in Malaysia. The race is on this weekend and Honda has five HSV-010 GT Teams competing in this race of speed, skills and strategy.
The teams were introduced to the media at the Honda Super GT party last night in the run up to the race this weekend (9 and 10 June 2012). The five HSV-010 GT Teams are Autobacs Racing Team Aguri who is also the 2007 Super GT Series Champion, Weider Honda Racing who ranked third in 2011, Keihin Real Racing, Nakajima Racing and Team Kunimitsu.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Yoichiro Ueno said, “Motorsports and racing are deeply rooted in Honda’s DNA. Racing fuels our passion to learn and allow us to break new grounds in our technologies. Through the Super GT race, all five Honda Racing Teams will continue to challenge themselves in both speed and mind. It is also a symbol of Honda’s Challenging Spirit whereby every race is an opportunity for Honda to push the limits of racing technology.”
“The Super GT race is not just a battle of speed, but also a battle of minds. It requires a lot of thinking ahead and strategising on the part of the team members. Honda thrives on the challenge in various levels of motorsports in order to elevate our skills, team spirit and racing ambition. It also showcases innovative technology whereby advanced technology can be applied in a road car. The Super GT shows the highest level of advanced road cars in a race.”
The Super GT race machine, the HSV-010 GT is a study model, for further development into a road car. The name HSV stands for Honda Sports Velocity. Today, all 5 HSV-010 GT race cars, namely, WEIDER HSV-010 GT, KEIHIN HSV-010 GT, ARTA HSV-010 GT, EPSOM HSV-010 GT and RAYBRIG HSV-010 GT are a reflection of Honda’s technology that has brought its automotive engineering up another notch, in which performance cars can be owned by fans to enjoy the advanced technology.
The first participation of HSV-010 GT was in 2009. Honda desired to create an easy-to-handle high performance vehicle through technology that surpasses the NSX-GT. This new breed, the HSV-010 GT that is powered by a 3.4L V8 liquid-cooled engine is the new racing legacy for Honda. This powertrain is primed for both speed and stability yet lightweight and have maximum torque compared to NSX.
To further emphasize Honda’s strong participation in motorsports, Honda Malaysia also announced that a fully local Honda Racing Team formed by HMSB associates will be participating in the Sepang 1000km race at the end of this year. In addition, Honda is also one of the sponsors for the Super GT race 2012 in Malaysia, which contributed a total of RM 300,000 to the organiser of the Super GT 2012 Series.
