Euromobil Sdn Bhd officially launched the Audi Q3 in Malaysia yesterday evening, 29 June 2012, in an extravagant but overcrowded event held at the Subang Skypark Terminal, Lapangan Terbang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah.

Unveiled by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry YB Dato’ Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir and Chairman of Euromobil Sdn Bhd Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Jamil Khamil, the event also witnessed the handover of keys to 9 new owners.

This five-door compact coupé crossover was actually launched in April last year at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show and locally previewed at Euromobil’s Glenmarie Showroom early in January this year during its’ Asian Tour’s maiden stop.

The car uses the Volkswagen Group A5 platform which is the same as the Tiguan and SEAT Tribu small sport utility vehicle (SUV) and assembled at SEAT’s plant in Martorell, Spain. Despite its’ name, the Q3 rivals compatriot X1 rather than the X3.

Externally, this premium compact SUV is designed with coupé-like lines to express its’ sporty character. The single-frame trapezoidal grille with tapered upper edges dominates the front with the wedge-shaped xenon plus headlights, styled to match the tapered grille, with iconic LED daytime running lights, shows off Audi’s new look. At the rear, the wraparound tailgate is similar in design to those on the Q5 and Q7.

The city-friendly size of the distinctive Q3 body encapsulates a deceptively roomy interior with seating for five and an accommodating load bay with a 460 litre capacity that can increase to 1,365 litres if the rear seats are folded down. The generously equipped interior also features voice control system, 6.5 inch TFT colour display, 10 speakers sound system with CD changer, multifunction steering wheel and automatic lights and wipers. Additional options include panaromic glass roof, LED interior lighting and BOSE Surround Sound system that delivers 465 watts through 14 speakers.

It is powered with a 2.0 TFSI turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum output of 170 hp between 4,300 to 6,200 rpm and a maximum torque of 280 Nm at 1,700 to 4,200 rpm. The engine also features a start-stop function and energy recovery system that contributes to a combined fuel consumption of 7.7 litres per 100 km.

The engine is coupled with a 7-speed S tronic quattro all-wheel-drive transmission that will propel this compact SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 second and on to a top speed of 212 km/h.

It is also equipped with a robust multi-link front and rear suspension system with 170 mm ride height for off-road capabilities. This suspension system is bolstered by the sophisticated Electronic Stability Program with electronic differential lock, which effectively regulates torque distribution.

It is said that Euromobil Sdn Bhd is allocated 100 units with 35 already booked before this launching event. The Audi Q3 2.0 TFSI Quattro is priced at RM258,000 OTR without insurance and RM279,000 OTR without insurance for the S Line trim.
