The Super GT Series 2012 Round 3 held in Sepang International Circuit last weekend was a successful event and for those who managed to attend, got to experience the full scale effect of the supposedly “fastest grand touring race in the world”. For those who purposely did not bother to come, citing reasons like unbearable heat or no access to tickets, will have to wait a whole year for the next one. But to ease their regret for not turning up, detailed here are some of the highlights before the race that day.

The first thing that needs to be highlighted is the Affin Bank Berhad Motor Show which is an 8,000 sq ft area covered by huge marquee tents. And with industrial grade fans and cooling ducts strewn everywhere, did provide shelter from the overwhelming heat.

Those who thought that fans would have to endure sweltering heat are mistaken as these tents not only provide much needed shade but also houses the motor show features the latest cars, bikes and a few 4X4 trucks from Naza World, Silverlake, JPM Motorsports, Sime Darby and more.

An important feature among the many highlights under these tents are our local Super GT Queens working hard to promote various product and posing with fans for an uncountable amount of cameras snapping photos of them. Among them – Super GT Queen Malaysia 2012 winner Miss Julie Tan who will represent Malaysia in next year’s Super GT event.

Organizers JPM Motorsports also held a second edition of their Biggest Supercar and Performance Car Gathering. Various car clubs and private owners from Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand broke the record created last year in the Malaysia Book of Records, sealing a new record with 608 registered cars, 203 cars more than the previous year.

This needed a lot of organising and took up even more time to get these cars into position at the front straight. To add to the packed paddock area, the Pit Walkabout was also held at the same time to create a frenzied festive atmosphere. From the grandstand, to the front straight and pit area, it was packed with fans.

After the fans and cars had cleared away, it was then time to start the main race. But before they start, they had to be showcased for fans who didn’t get to indulge in the Pit Walkabout. For them, it’s the Grid Walk. The Grid Walk is an exclusive invitation for the privileged few to get a chance of getting up close and personal with the cars, drivers, GT Queens and celebrities, at the starting grid of the race.

This also took quite some time to clear away but once done, there was nothing else but the main feature of the Super GT – The race itself.
