Opel Insignia Country Tourer 01

Opel drops its final piece in the Insignia family with the introduction of the Insignia Country, which will be premiered at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

While the sibling Sports Tourer is intended for families and businessmen, the Country Tourer is more adventurous with its athletic appearance a higher-ground clearance (by 20 mm). The front face features trademark Opel grille flanked by tinted headlamps with Daytime Running Lights. The design theme is repeated at the rear, where LED brake and taillights illuminate brightly.

A silver protective panel is put underneath the engine bay while side sills and lower body sections are protected by anthracite-coloured protective cladding.

Opel is offering three engines for the Country Tourer, led by a 2.0-litre SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Turbo that produces a healthy 250 hp/400 Nm output. The diesel-fed 2.0-litre BiTurbo CDTI  meanwhile packs 163 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque. The power train lineup is completed by a 163 hp/350 Nm 2.0-litre CDTI with an overboost to raise the torque briefly to 380 Nm.

Both the 2.0 SIDI Turbo and the 2.0 CDTI can be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI is available only with the auto.

Opel is also introducing the Haldex all-wheel drive system that works in tandem with the electronically-controlled rear-axle Limited Slip Differential (eLSD). The system varies torque distribution between both axles by determining which tyre has the most grip. This, according to Opel, will go hand in hand with the car’s FlexRide chassis to provide utmost vehicle control.

Prices and specification details will be announced later before sales commence.
