Ducati has just released a single teaser image of a covered up motorcycle said to be the 1199 Panigale R Superleggera. With the Panigale R already the lightest Ducati sport bike offered, the Superleggera edition is exactly what its Italian name suggests, a super-light version of it. Rumours also suggest that it will be unveiled in a months time at the 2013 EICMA in Milan.
Ducati said that the Superleggera manages to lose about 18 kg replacing some parts with light weighing titanium, carbon fiber, and magnesium thoughout the entire bike. That’s not all, its engineers at Bologna is said to have reworked the 1,199 cc Superquandro engine to output a massive 220 hp from it.
To control all that power on a feather weight bike, Ducati features top of the line Ohlins suspension pieces and Brembo brakes. The Superleggera will also get a next-generation electronics system, which is a direct descendant of the electronics used by Ducati Corse in WSBK and MotoGP, highlighting a wheelie control system, said to be in response to Aprilia’s venerable APRC package.
Unfortunately, it is a 500 units limited production run and purchasing one is an invite-only affair as only pre-selected Ducatisti will be given the opportunity to own one of the Panigale R Superleggera.
