Fans of the Land Rover Defender might want to say goodbye to the iconic model as Land Rover is set to axe the model starting December 2015, according to a report from Automotive Business Review. The move will also put an end to Defender’s run of 67 years.

The decision has been made in response to the tougher and more strict environmental and emissions laws in various markets across the world. However, Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that a beach-buggy style successor (presumably more environmental friendly) is in the pipeline. The model is expected to make an appearance at the forthcoming Los Angeles Motor Show.

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesman told ABR, “A replacement vehicle will join the Land Rover range, but the Defender in its current format is coming to an end.”
