Naza Premira Sdn Bhd has launched the new 2013 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS at the NST-Maybank COTY 2013 Awards at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur today. The launch of this latest addition brings the total number of models available here to 9 models including the RS4, Shiver, Dursoduro 750 and 1200, Mana, Tuono V4 and RSV4 R.
Taking its name from the past ETV 1000 Caponord, the new Caponord 1200 ABS is powered by a 1,197 cc V-twin engine that produces 125 hp at 8,250 rpm and 114.7 Nm at 6,800 rpm. The bike is fitted with a host of electronic systems such as Ride-by-Wire throttle control, which comes with three modes – Touring, Sport and Rain.
Other electronic systems include ABS, Aprilia Traction Control (ATC), Aprilia Dynamic Damping (ADD) and Aprilia Cruise Control (ACC). The traction control, which comes in three settings is integrated with the ABS but can be disengaged independently. On the other hand, ADD combines the principles of the ‘sky hook’ system to handle low frequency loads and ‘acceleration-driven’ damping to manage high frequency loads.
Meanwhile, braking system is comprised of twin 320 mm front discs with Brembo monoblock at the front and a 240 mm rotor with single-piston caliper at the rear.
The new 2013 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS is priced at RM93,888 OTR. However, Naza Premira is offering the new bike for only RM83,888 for the first 50 customers.
NAZA LAUNCHES THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE ADVENTURE-TOURING BIKE MARKET: THE 2013 APRILIA CAPONORD 1200 ABS
Expect to close the year with more than 400 registered units and
a share of 7% of the big bike market
Kuala Lumpur, 5 October 2013 – NAZA Premira Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor for Aprilia bikes in Malaysia, launched the latest edition of its most versatile bike yet – the 2013 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS, at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre during the NST-Maybank Car of the Year 2013 (COTY) Awards.
Nik Danial Nik Mahmood, Vice President of NAZA Two Wheel Division was present to launch the 2013 Caponord 1200 ABS. The launch of this latest addition brings the total number of Aprilia models available in Malaysia to 9 models which include the RS4 125cc, Shiver 750cc, Dursoduro 750cc and 1200cc, Mana 800cc, Tuono V4 1000cc , RSV4 R 1000cc, and the Superbike World Champion the RSV4 R Factory. With the introduction of Caponord, Aprilia’s range of products is more extensive and can compete in almost every segment of the big bike market.
With a wealth of experience gained in top-level competition over the years, Aprilia has revolutionized the street-enduro segment, offering the perfect balance of sport and comfort through the Caponord 1200 ABS. Its advanced and lightweight chassis make it easy to handle when facing the bustle of city streets whilst sophisticated electronic management and generous twin cylinder engine enable quick and fun rides through the countryside. Aprilia’s particular attention to the ergonomic detail includes excellent protection against wind, making it a comfortable adventure-touring bike fit for any occasion.
This latest model revives a name from Aprilia’s past: the ETV 1000 Caponord, released in 2001, represented an advanced interpretation of the ‘street enduro’ concept, boasting distinctive elements such as the dual beam chassis in aluminium and the 998 cc 98 HP twin cylinder engine, both clearly sports derivations. The original Caponord earned its name for its capability of racking up serious mileage traveling to the northernmost point in Europe and now Aprilia has transformed the newest Caponord model to deliver performance well beyond that of its predecessor.
“More than 10 years have passed since the introduction of the ETV 1000 Caponord and in that time, Aprilia’s motorcycle technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. As a smartly conceived and highly efficient street-biased adventure touring bike with impressive technical specifications, the Caponord 1200 ABS has the potential to be the leading bike in its segment,” said Nik Danial.
“This latest addition to the Aprilia stable of models will further increase the sales volume of Aprilia in Malaysia. Over the past six months of 2013, the registration volume of Aprilia has surpassed that of the whole 2012 volume. We expect to close the year with more than 400 registered units and a share of 7% of the big bike market – the best performance ever. We expect to further increase the sales of Aprilia in 2014, of which 25% is expected to be contributed by Caponord sales. The biggest volume will come from the popular Shiver 750,” commented Nik Danial.
“Aprilia is a brand that is synonymous with performance. Aprilia bikes have won numerous world racing championships with the last 2 championship titles from the RSV4 Factory in 2010 and 2012 of Superbike World Championship. The brand offers lifestyle bikes for enthusiasts that are more adventurous”, added Nik Danial.
Adapting to meet bikers’ new needs for a ‘global’ bike that provides great satisfaction in any conditions of use, Aprilia revamped the Caponord’s maximum power output and riding pleasure with its 1200 V2 engine providing 125hp at 8250rpm and a superior suite of electronic systems, which include RbW, ABS, ATC, ACC and ADD.
The Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle control has three selectable responses – Touring, Sport and Rain. An advanced double channel system manages the latest Brembo radial-mount, monoblock callipers and twin 320mm front disk brakes, plus the floating single-piston rear with 240mm rotor. The ABS is integrated with the ATC system but can be disengaged independently. Aprilia Traction Control (ATC) is the exclusive traction control system designed to get maximum grip out of any type of surface. It has three settings: Level 1, for a pure sport-riding experience; Level 2, for everyday use in the city and in touring; and Level 3, for enhanced safety on low-grip surfaces. The ATC can be switched off and is capable of self-calibrating when fundamental components of the rolling gear, such as tires, are changed.
Aprilia Dynamic Damping (ADD) uses a patented ‘comfort-oriented’ algorithm that combines the principles of the ‘sky hook’ system to handle the low frequency loads and ‘acceleration-driven’ damping to manage the high frequency loads. ADD minimises the impact that both kinds of imperfection have on the bike and rider by calculating the stroke speed of the rear shock and front forks and then adjusting them in real time to reduce the vertical movement of the chassis. Aprilia Cruise Control (ACC) is also a standard part of the Travel Pack.
The Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS is priced at RM83,888 (OTR).
