Audi Q1 sketch

Audi has announced a newest addition to the Q family – the Q1. The smallest model in the SUV lineup is said to start production starting 2016 at the Ingolstadt facility, where the company currently makes the A3, A4 and A5.

Audi says that the Q1 is the starting point of its strategy to add as many as 11 new models to its product range by the year 2020. By then, the company targets to reach total unit sales of more than two million vehicles each year. Not much has been said about the Q1 except that is designed based on the modular transverse engine concept.

The Q lineup currently comprises the Q3, RS Q3, Q5, SQ5 and Q7. The Q5 takes the spot as the global market leader with 194,430 units of the model had already been delivered by the end of October. The company aims to build 230,000 units of the Q5 this year alone, more than half of the total Q volume.
