Addressing the elderly as “Uncles” or “Aunties” may be common for most Malaysians but in the Chinese community, it is customary to address each family member with the proper honorific title as a sign of respect and gratitude. For that, Edaran Tan Chong Motor has released a microsite to provide guidance to enable the Chinese community to address their relatives with the correct titles, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.

The microsite offers the guidance in three dialects; Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. It features a simple family tree dictionary and chart so that one can click on the browser and select who they want to address, including the different dialects and also listen to how it is to be pronounced.

It also features a comical scenario in which three elderly ladies were addressed wrongly during the traditional Chinese New Year gathering, which makes it awkward for all parties concerned. This is where the guidance from the microsite comes into play.
