The general public, and motoring enthusiasts, are invited to spend their Merdeka weekend at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) as JPM Motorpsorts is bringing Australia’s biggest automotive event, SummerNats, to Malaysia for a four-day auto festival from 29th August to 1st September. The media launch to promote the festival was held earlier today at JPM Museo in Kota Damansara, graced by Malaysia’s Tourism and Culture Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz.
Even though the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 celebrations are supposedly a little muted due to the missing Malaysian Airlines MH370 tragedy, the local tourism industry, said Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri, still plays an important part of our socioeconomic structure and represents about RM51.5 billion in revenue per year. He then went on to record his appreciation to JPM Motorsports in their efforts to organise such an event to attract more tourist here.
SummerNats was voted as Australia’s Favourite Event last year and is regarded as one of the biggest event there attracting more than 100,000 spectators. Apart from a huge 1,500 plus elite street machine showdown, the festival in Australia also features the world’s best burnout battle, precission driving demos, horsepower heroics and much more. After 26 years of hosting this annual event, SummerNats Malaysia will be it’s first foray outside of Australia.
“This is the first international debut for SummerNats and it’s going to be big!” said JPM Motorsports Founder J.P. Chin.
“Having an event, not only for enthusiast, but one which caters to the entire family is something we strongly believe in. We’ve proven this to become a successful formula for three years running when we previously acquired the rights to host the Malaysian round of the Super GT Championship,” he added.
SummerNats Malaysia are setting out to emulate its success in Australia and aims to not only become Malaysia’s largest automotive event but also as a regional attraction for ASEAN automotive market serving as a large commercial and marketing platform.
Apart from crowning of the Best Local Custom Cars and Motorcycles in 12 categories, 8 of the competition winning cars from Australia will be put on display. There’s also plans to organise a car and motorcycle gathering with owners club from Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini, already submitted their support for the show.
A motorshow, an aftermarket products and accessories area, infotainment zone, Gymkhana competitions, and much more are also going to be featured, with a bazaar, food festival and special kids zone to cater for ladies and children, making the event a family affair.
SummerNats Malaysia will also coincide with the annual Sepang 12-Hour Race (previously known as the Merdeka Endurance Race) and tickets for it are priced at RM100 for the four-day auto festival. Children below 12 years who are accompanied with both parents, gets in for free.
