Kawasaki Ninja 250SL Launch 034

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Ninja family, Kawasaki Motors (Malaysia) has launched the new Kawasaki Ninja 250SL at the Sepang International Circuit today. The latest addition to the historic Ninja family was first launched in Indonesia last February. Here, the single-cylinder powered 250SL joins alongside the Ninja 250 as well as the naked Z250 in the Kawasaki 250cc lineup.

Said to be a replacement for the popular two-stroker KR150RR, the 250SL gets 27 hp at 9,700 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque at 8,200 rpm from a 249 cc, four-stroke single-cylinder engine mated to six-speed transmission. With fuel injection included, the engine promises a quick revving characteristic and robust low to mid range torque. The full-fairing sport bike is able to reach 153 km/h.

To improve performance while prolonging engine life, the 250SL also comes with Kawasaki’s new radiator fan cover which directs hot air away from both the rider and tank when riding or even in idle.

In line with the ‘SL’ designation, which according to Jeffrey Lim, General Manager and Diretor of Kawasaki Motors Malaysia, means ‘Slim’ and ‘Lightweight’, the bike is built on a compact trellis frame with a diameter of 31.8 mm that contributes to rigidity as well as slim dimensions.

At the front, the 250SL features a sporty clip-on handlebar mated to a 37 mm telescopic fork while the rear section is fitted with a five-way adjustable bottom-link Uni-Trak suspension. Brakes come in the form of a 290 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc at the rear – both come with a two-piston caliper. The bike weighs 151 kg (dry).

In terms of aesthetics, the new 250SL seems like a carbon copy of its two-cylinder sibling, except for the single headlight and a narrower fuel tank. The slim seat has been lifted higher to 780 mm for a better seating position. It rides on 17-inch wheels, with a 110/80 tyre at the front and a 130/70 at the rear.
