With a hashtag saying “Under 8”, Renaultsport has released a short clip, teasing an enhanced Megane fitted with a full Akrapovic exhaust system, probably with one sole purpose of taking back the fastest Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD) in Nurburgring title, recently stolen from it by the Seat Leon Cupra 280.
The Renaultsport Megane Trophy used to hold the title at 8 minutes 7.97 seconds, but was beaten by the Spanish hothatch earlier in March this year, clocking a 7 minute 58.44 seconds time, which is just under 8 minutes.
It seems the French manufacturer are looking for 10 seconds with the help of an entirely custom full exhaust system developed by Akrapovic. The clip shows some development work with precise computer design and measurement of the system, fitting, and testing on a dynamometer.
No details were given, but the clip does show the enhanced hothatch running on all four wheels, which begs the question, is this an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) Megane? Watch the clip and let us know what you think.
