Lexus Malaysia has finally taken the covers off the all-new Lexus RC in Kuala Lumpur today. As confirmed by the brand’s official distributor in September, the coupe comes in the form of RC 350 Luxury for RM526,000 and the V8-powered RC F for RM782,000 (both OTR without insurance).
First introduced at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, the RC 350 Luxury sports the brand’s signature spindle grille, flanked by multi-LED headlights with DRLs, and L-shaped tail lights. The coupe rides on 18-inch wheels shod with 235/45 tyres
Inside, you’ll find a rather familiar interior design. The cabin is upholstered with semi-aniline leather, and features a range of equipment such as a multi-function steering wheel, smart entry system with push start button, Remote Touch Interface with a touch pad, Mark Levinson sound system that comes with 17 speakers, and dual-zone air-conditioning, to name a few.
Powering the coupe is an all-aluminium 3.5-litre V6 engine that packs 312 hp at 6,400 rpm and 378 Nm of torque peaking at 4,800 rpm. With an eight-speed Sports Direct Shift sending the power to the rear wheels, the RC 350 Luxury sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed capped at 230 km/h.
The naturally aspirated engine can be enjoyed in three modes – Normal, Sport and Eco – via a dial on the centre console. There’s also a sound generator in the cabin that enhances the engine sound during acceleration.
In terms of safety, the RC 350 Luxury is equipped with eight airbags, ABS, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, EBD, Hill-Start Assist, Tyre Pressure Warning System, Blind Spot Monitor, as well as Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Designed to lessen injuries to pedestrians, the exterior is equipped with a pop-up bonnet.
The RC 350 Luxury is available in White Pearl, Sonic Titanium, Radiant Red and Starlight Black.
As for the RC F, the performance-oriented coupe gets 470 hp at 7,100 rpm and 530 Nm of torque from 4,800 to 5,600 rpm from a 5.0-litre V8. That’s 12 percent more power than the IS F engine on which it is based. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the RC F is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Top speed is rated at 270 km/h.
As opposed to the RC 350 Luxury, the RC F gets an additional Sport S+ mode with an M mode that permits manual shifting. It also comes with a newly developed Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD), which incorporates Standard, Slalom and Track modes.
While it shares most of the features with its sibling, the RC F has a stiffer chassis setup aimed for better steering response and smoother roll transfer. It rides on an all-coil suspension system, with double wishbones at the front end and a multi-link type at the other. Braking power comes from Brembo-developed brakes, which hide behind the 19-inch wheels.
The Lexus RC F comes in Radiant Red, Starlight Black, Sonic Silver, White Nova, Lava Orange and Heat Blue. For added vigour, customers may opt for a lightweight carbon fibre kit for a mere RM71,000 extra.
