Motor Image Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tan Chong International Limited (TCIL), and the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Asian region, has just launched its All-New Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy, here at the Impact Exhibition Center of Impact Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, in conjunction with the Thailand International Motor Expo which officially begins this weekend.

Both these two new vehicles is said to offer an experience of supreme performance, responsive handling and luxurious comfort.

“As Subaru’s flagship models, the all-new Outback and Legacy provide customers with second to none performance, safety and luxury. The new models combine luxury with innovative Subaru technologies that enhance the driving experience, efficiency and safety. We hope this will make the Outback and Legacy excellent value statements for customers in the Asian region.” said Tan Chong International Ltd Executive Director Glenn Tan.

The Subaru Legacy, now in its 6th generation, sports a new dynamic look with its signature hexagonal front grille flanked by a set of ‘hawk-eye’ headlights and sharp contour lines throughout the entire body that boasts both a muscular and agile overall outlook. Subaru’s new flagship model now stands at 1,500 mm tall, 1,840 mm wide and 4,795 mm long, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

Two naturally-aspirated engine options are offered for the Legacy, the FB25, which s a 2.5 litre boxer system churning out 173 hp at 5,800 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, and the EZ36D, a 3.6 litre boxer engine kicking out 256 hp at 6,000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. Both engine offerings are mated to a Lineartronic CVT transmission.

The Subaru Outback, on the other hand, although based on the Legacy, is slightly bigger at 1,675 mm tall, 1,840 wide and 4,815 mm long, with a wheelbase measuring at 2,745 mm. Being a crossover, it gets a higher ground clearance of 213 mm compared to the 150 mm on the Legacy.

The Outback shares the same two engine and transmission configurations as the Legacy but gains Subaru’s X-MODE system. The system is said to enhance performance on poor road conditions by integrating control of engine, four-wheel drive, braking and other functions.

Even though the two vehicles were launched for the region, only the Subaru Outback, and only with the FB25 drivetrain will make its way into our Malaysian market sometime in the second quarter of next year.

The Thailand price for both the Legacy and Outback will be announced during the official public launch at its booth when the expo starts.
