Mazda Motor Corporation has unveiled the long-awaited sedan version of the all-new Mazda2 in a grandiose world premier event staged at the Thailand International Motor Expo. The sports subcompact Mazda2 features up-to-date SKYACTIV technology and a new 1,500cc “clean diesel” engine, and is about to set new standards in the Thai passenger car market. Establishing a new segment called “The New Power-Eco”, the Mazda2 is an example of how fuel efficiency can be combined without compromising sporty performance. While offering world class quality to Thai customers, the Mazda2 has already been hailed by auto critics in Japan and Europe, having won the Japan Car of the Year (the fifth Mazda Model after the CX-5 in 2012), Good Design Gold Award and German Golden Steering Wheel award shortly after its market launch. The Mazda2 is available for Thai customers to place pre-orders at the Thailand International Motor Expo.
Top executives from Mazda Motor Corporation, led by r. Seita Kanai, Representative Director and Chairman, were present at the global unveiling for the all-new Mazda2 sedan, the latest member from Mazda’s SKYACTIV model range to be introduced to the public. Thailand is the first country in the world to witness the launch of the all-new Mazda2 sedan at the Motor Expo, and pre-orders are being accepted before official sales commence early next year. Mazda is highly confident that the outstanding qualities of this new model will win the hearts of Thai customers and help generate a strong sales momentum for the company. It will also help strengthen the SKYACTIV lineup of vehicles in the Thai market, allowing more customers to experience the true “zoom-zoom” driving excitement of Mazda vehicles.
Mr. Seita Kanai said “There is no doubt that Mazda2 is our most important passenger vehicle in this country and now the all-new Mazda2 was fully-redesigned for the first time in five years. And furthermore, it is our great pleasure to make the world premiere of the all-new Mazda2 sedan at the Thailand International Motor Expo. Our all-new Mazda2 defies conventional thinking about compact cars to provide unprecedented value to customers who love to enjoy fun driving. The all-new Mazda2 offers new values that will capture the hearts of any car-lover”
“We have been expanding production capacity at Autolliance Thailand, one of our four key global production facilities. In addition, our new company, MPMT, Mazda Powertrain Manufacturing Thailand, will start producing the SKYACTIV-Drive 6 speed automatic transmission in January next year. Furthermore, MPMT is now on track to start local assembly of SKYACTIV engines in the fourth quarter of 2015. Thailand will become the first country outside Japan to start comprehensive local production of Mazda vehicles – including transmission, engine and vehicle assembly. Mazda is making steady progress toward becoming a “one-and-only” brand, connected to car-lovers everywhere by a special bond”
The Mazda2 is the first car model to be officially approved for the Phase II of the Thailand Eco Car program. The SKYACTIV and clean diesel engine SKYACTIV-D – in the Mazda2 are the main factors that helped it clear one of the most stringent fuel economy and emission requirements in the world. According to the Phase II of the Eco Car – requirements, the fuel economy needs to be 4.3 litres per 100 km (23.2km/litre) or better, while carbon dioxide emissions must not be above 100 g/km.
The all-new Mazda2 comes with premium features such as MZD Connect next-generation car connectivity system, Active Driving Display, Touch Screen Centre Display and Centre Commander. Fuel economy is minimized, thanks to an engine i-stop function and i-ELOOP that uses electricity from regenerative braking to power the air-conditioner and other equipment in the cabin. There are also dual airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and ABS brakes.
The all-new Mazda2 SKYACTIV will be officially launched in Thailand early – next year, when retail prices will be announced and full launch activities being held. Customers who are interested can see both the 5-door hatchback and sedan versions, as well as make pre-orders, at the Thailand International Motor Expo from November 29 to December 10th and at all 160 Mazda showrooms nationwide.
No news yet on when the all-new Mazda2 will be available in the Malaysian market, but stay tuned for updates.
