Skoda Fabia R 5 Concept 01

Skoda has previewed its upcoming rally car with the reveal of the Skoda Fabia R5 Concept at the ongoing Essen Motor Show. The sprightly hatchback is based on the 3rd generation Fabia revealed a few months ago and is ready for homologation by mid-2015.

Facts given are far from comprehensive but according to Skoda, the Fabia R5 is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine paired to a five-speed sequential gearbox. It is equipped with MacPherson struts and will weigh at least 1,230 kg, in accordance with the FIA regulations.

“The world premiere of the Fabia R5 Concept Car gives an insight into the future of rallying at Skoda,” said Skoda Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek. The Fabia R 5 will replace the Fabia Super 2000 (S2000), which has just won a hat-trick of titles in the recently-concluded FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC).
