2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider - Main

Alfa Romeo may not be getting all the attention lately but they are actually trying. This time, the Italian automaker tries to get in the limelight by introducing the new Alfa Romeo Spider 4C at the North American International Auto Show 2015.

Essentially a roofless version of the 4C, the Spider sticks with the same 1.75-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine packing 237 hp and 350 Nm of torque and dual-clutch transmission. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and generate 1.1 g of lateral acceleration, according to Alfa Romeo.

Of course, there are slight changes done to the monocoque chassis of the Spider. The fixed roof has been taken out and can be replaced with either a standard-issue cloth roof, which is both removable and stowable, or an optional carbon-fibre hardtop. With the additional roof mechanism, the Spider is heavier than its fixed-roof sibling by just 10 kg.

Apart from that, the Spider now sports a tasteful centre exit exhaust from Akrapovic – instead of the dual on the coupe – enclosed by a carbon fibre surround. It rides on 17-inch wheels with 205/40 tyres at the front end and 18-inch wheels wrapped in 235/35 tyres at the other.

Customers can choose to have their Spiders in one of the seven exterior colours offered, including the new Giallo (yellow) paint. The cabin comes in various trim packages, which offer carbon fibre and aluminium trims along with leathers in colours such as black, red or Tobacco.

For those who are performance conscious, the Spider can be ordered with an optional Track Package that includes items like high-performance shocks, larger front and rear sway bars, bigger forged aluminium wheels, Pirelli P-Zero AR Racing tyres and a bunch of carbon fibre body parts.
