Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept - NAIAS - 1

Promising a drive range of more than 200 miles with a price tag of about USD30,000, the Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept, unveiled at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), looks set to be the EV for the masses.

“The Bolt EV concept is a game-changing electric vehicle designed for attainability, not exclusivity. Chevrolet believes electrification is a pillar of future transportation and needs to be affordable for a wider segment of customers.” said General Motors Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra.

No details were given on the electric powertrain, but to help achieve the promised range, the five-door hatchback is said to use a combination of materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, magnesium and woven mesh to cut weight down. It also uses Aero-optimizing features such as vented rear fenders to help increase its range.

With practically no overhangs on the front and rear, this compact EV is said to offer a generous 4-seater interior with a full-length, frosted glass roof with unique, faceted design elements, further enhancing spaciousness.
