2016 Honda Pilot 02

The third-generation Honda Pilot has been unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show. Positioned above the CR-V and HR-V, the North American mid-size SUV features a three-row seating layout for up to eight passengers.

For 2016, the Pilot has ditched the boxy appearance of its predecessors for a sleeker, less utilitarian exterior styling similar to its compact and subcompact siblings. In terms of equipment, the SUV is fitted with LED projector headlights with auto high beam technology, LED daytime running lights and tail lights as well as 20-inch wheels and optional panoramic roof.

Inside, those who have been in the CR-V will recognise the similar dashboard layout and centre console design. According to Honda, the cabin makes use of high-quality soft-touch material in the entire cabin as well as amenities such as LED map lighting, heated and ventilated seats, and heated steering wheel. Two second-row captain chairs are available for those who seek for bigger space between the second and third row.

In terms of dimension, the new Pilot is three inches longer than its predecessor, creating more space in the cargo area that can hold an 82-quart cooler without interfering the third-row seating. Despite the increase in size, the SUV manages to lose about 136 kg of weight.

Powering the SUV is an Earth Dreams 3.5-litre i-VTEC V6 engine that comes with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) and Idle Stop technology. It can be mated to either a six- or nine-speed automatic transmission and buyers will be able to choose between front- or all-wheel-drive setting.
