Kawasaki Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd ushers in 2015 with the introduction of the new Kawasaki Vulcan S, an entry level cruiser-sport model intended for those between the age of 30 to 65. The bike was introduced to the press in an event held at Sunway Lost World of Tambun in Ipoh.
Getting straight to the point, the Vulcan S, which has already been launched alongside the H2 and H2R superbikes late last year, features a 649 cc, liquid-cooled engine derived from the Versys as well as the ER-6. The parallel twin mill packs 60 hp at 7,500 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 6,600 rpm, and features a raft of improvements including retuned camshaft profile, longer air intake as well as heavier crankshaft for better power delivery.
As a cruiser, the Vulcan S offers a relaxed riding position that can be fine-tuned thanks to Kawasaki’s new Ergo-Fit system that comes in ‘Reduced Reach’, ‘Mid Reach’ and ‘Extended Reach’ settings to cater to individual requirements. The system allows the handlebar, seat and foot pegs to be adjusted according to the rider’s height, even for those with 5′ 6″ and below. That said, the company has confirmed that the system will not be available for the Malaysian market just yet.
The bike is also fitted with a backbone-style rear frame, a 41-mm telescopic front fork as well as a single rear shock absorber with linkage and adjustable preload. Elsewhere, the Vulcan S boasts low seat position, a 1,575-mm wheelbase and an under-engine muffler for lower centre of gravity. Braking power comes from a 300-mm disc with dual-piston caliper at the front end and a 250-mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the other.
In terms of appearance, the Vulcan S is available in Flat Ebony and Metallic Royal Purple. It has an inverted triangle headlight with built-in position lamp, LED tail lights, teardrop-shaped 14-litre tank, padded seat, together with 18-inch wheel at the front and 17-inch wheel at the rear. Upping the ante, the bike can be fitted with optional accessories such as larger windshield, luggage racks, saddle bags, gear position indicator and DC socket, among others.
The Kawasaki Vulcan S is expected to be priced below RM30,000 after GST. It comes with Kawasaki Motors Malaysia’s 2-year or 20,000 km warranty.
