The BMW X3 is five years old now – first debut was in 2010 – and these spy shots confirm that a third generation model is just around the corner.
Heavily disguised, the X3 (slated to be a 2017 model with the codename G01) was spotted undergoing cold weather testing prior to its scheduled debut late next year. From the looks of it, the new model seems to have grown in size with an increased ride height as well as a longer rear overhang.
The new X3 will also ride on a new modular platform that is promised to be lighter and more spacious than before. It will feature engines from the B-series family in four- and six-cylinder forms. There’s also a possibility that the crossover will be offered with M-performance parts, which are expected to be badged X3 M40i and X3 M.
We can’t really see what’s happening underneath the camouflage but things should be better than before especially since the X3 is one of the brand’s few undesired models.
