2016 Dodge Viper ACR 06

You are looking at the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR, labelled as the “fastest street-legal Viper track car ever.” Interestingly, instead of squeezing outrageous amount of horsepower out of its V10 engine, development is focused on three areas: aerodynamics, chassis and tyres, according to the SRT engineering team.

In the ACR, the gargantuan 8.4-litre V10 engine has been given a minor tweak to produce 645 hp and 812 Nm of torque, just five horsepower more than the normal Viper. Paired with the standard Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission, the ten-cylinder unit gets new unique exhaust tips added to the side-mounted pipes that results in a reduced exhaust pressure.

The Viper ACR will come with an Extreme Aero package, which is claimed to produce 1 ton of downforce at top speed of 285 km/h. The kit adds a huge adjustable dual-element rear wing, measuring 1,876 mm wide, rear carbon fibre diffuser, bespoke SRT hood with removable louvers, detachable extension for the front splitter and four dive planes.

To cope with track duties, the Viper ACR is equipped with huge carbon ceramic brakes – 15.4-inch at the front and 14.2-inch at the rear – with Brembo calipers, retuned ESC and ABS, as well as Kumho Ecsta V720 tyres measuring 295/25 19 at the front and 355/30 at the rear. There’s also bespoke aluminium Bilstein race shocks that offers 10-way rebound and compression adjustability, and three inches of height adjustment. All of the enhancements allow the coupe to generate 1.5G in high-speed turns, Dodge claims.
