Mazda MX-5 Bose Sound System 01

You might think that sound system in a fun-to-drive car like the new Mazda MX-5 doesn’t matter but it actually does. Unlike before, those who like to drive with the top down will be able to fully enjoy their favourite driving sound tracks with the new Bose sound system, which is specially designed for the Japanese roadster.

Since the MX-5 comes with a convertible top, Bose has equipped the sound system with two separate equalization (EQ) settings – one for top-down driving and one for top-up. It is combined with a noise compensation technology, which adjusts automatically depending on roof position, wind and road noise.

The new sound system also marks the return of headrest speakers, which first appeared on the first-generation MX-5. It comprises of a pair of 50 mm Bose UltraNearfield speakers that are integrated into the headrests to create a wide sound stage, despite being just inches away from the listener.

Elsewhere, Bose also adds two 165 mm speakers in each door, 25 mm neodymium tweeters in each A-pillar as well as a 130 mm woofer housed in a 6-litre custom enclosure, which is located in under the front passenger footwell. All the speakers are linked to 7-channel digital amplifier mounted below the car’s convertible-top storage space.
