Malaysia - Traffic Jam

In a surprising twist of things, it has been reported in a local news website that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is going to try to reduce parking spaces in town to make way for more walkways, as a step to control pollution and traffic congestion.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib was cited saying that the move would make city dwellers walk and take public transport instead of chocking up Kuala Lumpur by driving into town.

He went on to say that, “the problem now is, car ownership in KL is very high, so we are trying to encourage them to use the LRT and public transport,”

“We are currently brainstorming with professional bodies and the Real Estate And Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (Redha) to determine whether there is a need for one to one basis parking in apartments.” he added.
