Lamborghini Urus - 09

It has been confirmed that Lamborghini will be the next automaker to join the opulent crossover bandwagon alongside Bentley, Maserati as well as Aston Martin.

According to an official statement, Sant’Agata Bolognese is set to welcome its third model to the lineup by 2018. The upcoming SUV was previewed in the form of the Urus concept at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show.

With an investment of hundreds of millions of Euros between Volkswagen Group, Audi AG, Lamborghini, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and several agencies, the production of the SUV will see the facility in Sant’Agata Bolognese enlarged from 80,000 sq meters to 150,000 sq meters.

Not only that, the company also plans to hire 500 new employees, who will be working at a new production line, warehouses and larger R&D department. While no details regarding the engine or platform have been divulged just yet, Lamborghini said that the SUV will be targeted at markets in the USA, China, Middle East, United Kingdom, Germany and Russia, with an annual production number of 3,000 units.
