Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia, has officially launched the new Peugeot 508. The model is offered in sedan and station wagon (SW) forms for the THP variant and only sedan for the oil-burning GT variant.

Signalling a major departure from the previous generation, the new Peugeot 508 adopts the Lion marque’s latest styling theme that is highlighted by a redesigned bumper, sleeker LED headlight design, a vertical front grille with the Peugeot lion right in the middle and a more horizontal bonnet. The rear lights are also LED, with three trademark claw-shaped clusters. 18-inch alloy rims (19-inch for the 508 GT) finish the model’s new look.

The cabin has also been revamped, with a seven-inch HD touchscreen that houses most of the 508’s functions and a newly designed instrument panel, which is inspired by watch faces. Apart from that, the model is also equipped with a retractable colour heads up display, Smart Beam system, keyless entry with push start button, quad zone air conditioning and automatic parking brake.

In terms of entertainment, there are 10 JBL speakers that are linked to a 10-channel 500W sound amplifier, Arkamys sound processing software and a built in Jukebox. The latter has a capacity of 8GB that can store up to 2,000 tracks. Elsewhere, the 508 gets a reverse camera, memory and massage function for driver’s seat in the GT variant, multifunction steering wheel, LED interior map lights, auto headlamp and wipers ans well as electro-chrome interior mirror.

The THP variants are powered by a 1.6-litre Turbo High Pressure four-cylinder engine that develops 165 PS at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque from 1,450 rpm. Mated to a six-speed auto transmission with paddle shift, tiptronic and Sport mode, the mill enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, with a top speed of 220 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.1 litres per 100 km.

In the 508 GT, there’s a 2.2-litre turbodiesel Hdi FAP engine that is mated to the same six-speed auto transmission. With an output of 206 PS at 3,500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,750 rpm, the GT is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, while top speed is capped at 235 km/h. Peugeot claims a combined drive cycle of 5.7 litres per 100 km.

Safety equipment in the 508 includes six airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Anti-Skid Regulation, Dynamic Stability Control, Hill Start Assit, two ISOFIX points, anti-pinch power windows, blind spot assist and Peugeot Rolling Code Transponder immobiliser with perimetric, volumetric and anti-tilt alarm.
